There appears to be some bad blood among the past and current members of family country group The Band Perry.

The trio launched in 2010 as a sibling trio, consisting of Kimberly, Reid and Neil Perry, and earned hits including “If I Die Young” (a Hot Country Songs and Adult Contemporary No. 1) and “Better Dig Two” (No. 1 on Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay). The group went on hiatus in 2023, and Kimberly launched a brief solo career, before The Band Perry regrouped with Kimberly, brother Reid and Kimberly’s husband, Johnny Costello. Soon, Reid left the band and it transitioned to a duo with Kimberly and her husband, who released singles including “Psychological.”

Now, Neil Perry is telling his side of the story behind how the group’s lineup shifted.

On Aug. 11, Neil Perry released a series of posts on Instagram, promoting music under a new moniker called Wolves of June. The first video joined the recent “Netflix doc” online trend, as Perry was seen sitting in a chair in front of shelves of awards that The Band Perry had previously won, and the clip is emblazoned with the words, “Preparing for my Netflix documentary about how The Band Perry went from three siblings to my sister and her husband.” The post included the caption: “June 2024 took the old life. Wolves of June is what came next…”

Another Instagram post from Neil Perry gave more details, as he wrote, “June 2024 took something from me. Something I had spent my entire life building. A band. A business. A family. A name. My sister wanted her husband to become a member of the band, taking my brother’s place. I made it equally clear that I was not okay with that…weeks later, I was terminated. The day after my birthday…Then I watched a story emerge that didn’t resemble the one I lived.”

That post from Neil Perry included a scene from the series Succession, as well as clips from two interviews that Kimberly Perry and Costello did to promote The Band Perry as a duo, in which she appears to say that her brothers supported her continuing on with the group. Neil Perry wrote: “I explicitly asked my sister not to misrepresent my support for the current version of the band.”

He went on to add, “By May 2024, none of us were consistently on speaking terms, and Reid had stopped engaging in both personal and business matters. Kimberly came to me about bringing the band out of hiatus, and we initially agreed that moving forward with Reid was not something we were prepared to do. Kimberly reached out to him, and he confirmed he was not interested. I was then presented with three options: move forward as a duo, hold auditions or have her husband step in. I was fine with the first two, but soon understood Kimberly wanted to move forward with the third. We ultimately decided not to proceed.”

Those plans quickly shifted, however. Neil Perry’s statement continued, “A few weeks later, Reid rejoined the band through conversations I was not part of, and I was given three days to decide whether I would continue under those circumstances. At the end of that three-day window, I asked for a conversation the following week, and was told I was out of time. I was approached again a month later, but I could not move forward under those circumstances. At that point, I understood that continuing to tour was no longer realistically an option for me and I would soon be forced out by the 2/3 partnership agreement. What I did not agree to was losing my financial interest and access to the resources and business I had spent my life helping to build.

The Band Perry’s 2010 self-titled album reached platinum status from the Recording Industry Association of America, thanks to hit singles including “You Lie” and “If I Die Young.” Their follow-up album, 2013’s Pioneer, included hit singles “Better Dig Two” and “DONE.” They issued the pop-leaning album Coordinates in 2018 before announcing their hiatus in 2023.

Neil Perry also launched a new Instagram page for Wolves of June, which includes his performances of his new alt-pop song “TNT.”

Multiple reps for The Band Perry had not responded to Billboard‘s request for comment by press time.

Tate McRae Gets Fans Buzzing With Golden Lollapalooza Moment & Teased Return

Following a breathlessly packed 2025 run, Tate McRae was relatively quiet for the first half of 2026, without any new releases or live dates (outside of an appearance at Billboard‘s Women in Music event in April. But in August, she seems deadset on making up for dormant time. She appeared at a pair of festivals on back-to-back nights to start the month — Osheaga on Aug. 1 and Lollpalooza on Aug. 2 — including a much-buzzed-about moment to close the latter set where she quickly dipped herself in gold body paint. And she also began teasing new visualson her Instagram account, leading fans to believe that a new era is imminent.

As a result of all the increased attention surrounding McRae — after a long period of dormancy, relatively speaking — many fans returned to her discography on DSPs. For the five days after her two festival dates (Aug. 3-7), her complete catalog totaled over 38.3 million official on-demand U.S. streams, up nearly six million and 18% from just under 32.6 million streams she racked up across the same five-day period the prior week (July 27-30), according to Luminate. Her well-earned break appears to have been well-timed in once again whetting the pop world’s appetite, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see her take advantage of it with a big new release in the year’s final months. — ANDREW UNTERBERGER

TikTok Remix & Dance Trend Boost 22Jay’s “Talking Bodiez” — And Tove Lo’s 2015 Original 

It’s been over a decade since Tove Lo hit No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Talking Body,” and now its streams have resurged following a viral TikTok remix and accompanying dance trend. 

On July 17, TikTok user @/kjtheproducer4 premiered an ebullient trap remix of “Talking Body” with the caption, “I’ll remix anything.” Almost instantly, TikTok fell in love with the remix, helping the video reach over 7.4 million views in under a month. The accompanying sound now plays in over 201,000 posts, while Tove Lo’s “Talking Body” TikTok sound has surged to over 1.9 million views. By July 30, TikTok user @/realz4y combined a few Dallas-sourced “bend” moves for a dance challenge that also went viral. His Aug. 8 post of the choreography currently boasts over 5.8 million views and 700,000 likes. 

According to Luminate, “Bodiez” earned a negligible amount of official on-demand U.S. streams during the week of July 31-Aug. 2, with that number exploding by 10,439% to over 16,400 official on-demand U.S. streams two weeks later (Aug. 7-10). As for Tove Lo’s original, “Talking Body” logged 1.9 million official on-demand U.S. streams during the week of July 24-30, with that number jumping nearly 40% to over 2.65 million official streams the following week (July 31-Aug. 6). 

With Tove Lo giving KJ the Producer her co-sign — underneath the TikTok post of his remix, she wrote, “Turned my banger into a different banger” — there’s no telling just how far this remix can go. — KYLE DENIS

Jay-Z 30 Celebrations & Dance Trend Lift Justin Timberlake’s ‘Suit & Tie’ 

13 years later, the people are still swooning over “Suit & Tie.” 

Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z‘s 2013 collaboration is experiencing a streaming revival thanks to a new TikTok dance trend — as well as younger audience’s general rediscovery of the Brooklyn MC thanks to his stadium-headlining Jay-Z 30 celebrations. 

On July 31, TikTok user @/vicmixes1 shared a mashup of “Suit & Tie” and Trey Songz’s “All We Do,” focusing on Jay-Z’s verse and JT’s “oooh ahhh” ad-libs. That post currently boasts over 620,000 views, and by Aug. 5, user @/realz4y — yes, the same high school football player who created the “Talking Bodiez” dance trend — used the sound for yet another dance challenge. That post has since hit over 325,000 views, inspiring hundreds of other users to put their own spin on the dance. 

Earlier in the month (July 10) — the same day as the first JAŸ 30 show at Yankee stadium — user @/zodyorr shared a two-person dance challenge set to the original version of “Suit & Tie,” which collected over one million views. The official “Suit & Tie” TikTok sound currently plays in over 1.9 million TikTok posts and 63,000 Instagram Reels. 

“Suit & Tie” earned over 915,000 official on-demand U.S. streams during the week of June 19-25. Six weeks alter (July 31-Aug. 6), plays for “Suit” have surged 103% to over 1.8 million official on-demand U.S. streams, according to Luminate. Already a Hot 100 top 10 hit (No. 3), maybe this revival can bring “Suit & Tie” back to Billboard’s all-genre Streaming Songs chart. – KD
