Corridos tumbados superstar Natanael Cano is set to return to the stage at the very place where he cemented his status as one of the greats of the regional Mexican genre: the GNP Seguros Stadium. The iconic venue will host the highly anticipated comeback of the singer-songwriter, featuring a new album focused on the musical style he cocreated. The concert at this emblematic location in Mexico City is scheduled for Sept. 18 and will kick off a stadium tour across the country, Billboard can exclusively announce on Monday (July 27).
Titled after his upcoming album, Natanael Cano Vol. 1, the Ocesa-promoted tour will take the artist considered the father of corridos tumbados to some of the most renowned venues in Mexico. In addition to the iconic Estadio GNP Seguros (formerly Foro Sol), he will perform at the new Coliseo GNP Seguros in Guadalajara on Sept. 25 and at Estadio Walmart Park in Monterrey on Oct. 2, with more dates to be announced.
Presale tickets for the shows in Mexico City and Guadalajara will begin this Thursday (July 30) at 2 p.m. local time through Banamex, according to a press release. General ticket sales will start Friday (July 31).
In 2024, Cano sold out Estadio GNP Seguros, drawing over 65,000 fans as part of his Tumbado Tour. That performance made the artist from Sonora the first corridos tumbados singer to livestream his entire concert via Disney+ to all of Latin America.
Cano’s new tour will also mark his return to the genre that made him famous with a new album, Natanael Cano Vol. 1, to be released on Aug. 27, as the artist himself revealed on Saturday (July 25) during a game he organized for his fans, where he gave away one million pesos (approximately $57,000) to a lucky winner. In addition to the cash prize, the winner will be invited to the Mexico City show and an exclusive listening party.
Earlier this month, Cano set social media ablaze with “Aprevenido,” a track that marked his highly anticipated return to corridos tumbados. Last Friday (July 24), he released “Pa’ La Maña” alongside genre stars Gabito Ballesteros and Adriel Favela, the second single from his new project, which incorporates the traditional tuba sound.
Featured on Billboard’s list of the Best Regional Mexican Acts of All Time, Cano is widely regarded as the leader and creator of corridos tumbados, a musical subgenre of traditional Mexican corridos that blends rap and hip-hop elements, ushering in a new era for Mexican music in 2019. One of his greatest contributions to the new corridos lies in his edgier, street-inspired approach, which resonates with Gen Z audiences on both sides of the border. His debut album, Corridos Tumbados, spent 31 weeks at No. 1 on the Top Regional Mexican Albums chart.
Below, check out the first confirmed dates of Cano’s tour, starting this fall.
- Sep. 18 – Ciudad de México @ Estadio GNP Seguros
- Sep. 25 – Guadalajara @ Coliseo GNP Seguros
- Oct. 2 – Monterrey @ Estadio Walmart Park
It’s not all bad news for Boosie Badazz.
The Louisiana rapper reunited with a childhood friend while he visited Detroit to perform at the Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre for his national tour “Boosie Badazz & Friends: Blues on the River V,” as he finds himself in the middle of various legal battles that involve a lawsuit over an alleged assault by hookah at a nightclub and a legal action he recently filed after a failed presidential pardon effort.
Last month, Boosie posted a Reel on Instagram asking his followers to give him some feedback on a heartfelt email he was thinking of sending to his long lost childhood best friend, Derrick, who moved from Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Michigan when they were kids. “Aye, I think I found my long lost friend,” he said to the camera. “I got an email on ’em, so I’m finna email him. Y’all tell me how this email sounds.” He then began reading the message where he talked about all the good times they had growing up while attending Wildwood Elementary and referred to his old friend as his “bestie” before leaving his number for him to reach out.
When he was done reading the email, someone in the background could be heard saying, “That was so sweet and sentimental.”
However, the comments on the post took a predictably different tone. Some joked around about how serious the email sounded with one of those people being Derrick himself who left a comment with laughing emojis telling his buddy to get in touch. “You wrote that s—t like I’m on my death bed,” he joked. “I’m crying laughing….who you emailing!?? I’m waiting on the contact. Wow this is crazy…Derrick Jackson Jr on Facebook.”
The two old friends did indeed get in touch and the Baton Rouge rapper posted separate vids of him pulling up on his childhood bestie’s house where the two gave each other a big hug and another of the two of them being kids again at Slick City Action Park where they raced down slides together with one of the captions reading, “Back like we ain’t never separated! We compete at everything.”
DetroitRapDaily then caught up with Derrick where he shared the reply he would’ve sent back had he gotten the email and admitted that people never believed him whenever he would tell them he knew Boosie when they were kids. “Bro, it’s been 30 years since I left Baton Rouge to move back to Michigan,” he began. “I always truly believed we would cross paths again in the same exact way. Your videos explaining your flashback to our childhood friendship brought many memories that I share with my friends and my family here in my hometown. Now many never truly believed I really knew the real Boosie Badazz, now I’m looking forward to renewing our friendship like it never stopped, bro. Sincerely, Derrick Jackson.”
