Providence Equity Partners, the majority owner of THE•TEAM (the agency formerly known as Wasserman), has assumed full ownership of the company, according to an internal company memo obtained by Billboard on Tuesday (July 28).
“We are pleased to confirm that our sale process has concluded with Providence Equity Partners, our existing investor and partner since 2022, investing additional capital into the company,” reads the memo circulated to staff. “This will support a transaction through which THE•TEAM will acquire Casey’s remaining ownership interest.”
THE•TEAM did not immediately respond to Billboard‘s request for comment. News of the Providence sale was first reported by Puck.
Wasserman, whose ties with Jeffrey Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell were revealed in the Epstein files earlier this year, announced he would be selling his agency in February after several artists on the company’s roster called for his departure and either said they were leaving or threatened to leave amid the scandal, though the full extent of artist departures remains unclear. In March, the agency rebranded as THE•TEAM, removing Wasserman’s name from the company.
Several bidders were in consideration for THE•TEAM, with sources telling Billboard that potential buyers also included UTA, with backing from private equity firm EQT, Patrick Whitesell‘s WIM and Excel Sports Management with Goldman Sachs.
“The sale process was highly competitive, with strong interest from many parties and multiple bidders at the finish line,” reads the internal memo, which adds that the sale is expected to close within the next 45 to 60 days.
Mike Watts assumed the role of CEO following Wasserman’s departure. Since 2022, Providence Equity Partners has been the strategic investor of the agency, which is composed of Wasserman Music, Wasserman Sports, the Montag Group, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and the Brands & Properties division. THE•TEAM’s touring roster includes Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Kendrick Lamar, SZA and Tyler, the Creator. The music team was formed following Wasserman’s acquisition of Paradigm’s music holdings in 2021.

Steve Lacy may have unintentionally become every Marvel fan’s enemy.
The Grammy-winning alternative singer raised eyebrows at the Spider-Man: Brand New Day premiere on Sunday (July 25) after slipping what might be a spoiler into an otherwise normal red carpet interview.
Warning: This story contains spoilers for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Lacy was interviewed by streamer Valkyrae on the carpet, and he was asked which character he was most excited to see, with the caveat of avoiding spoilers.
“You know what? Jean. I like Jean,” he replied. The interviewer awkwardly paused, though Lacy continued: “She’s the villain, but there’s a reason to her madness.”
The interviewer immediately responded with a laugh. “OK… is that a spoiler?”
Realizing what he may have just said, Lacy quickly pivoted and tried to save the conversation. “I like her. I like her character. I don’t know why.”
The moment began to circulate across social media, with fans immediately trying to fit the pieces of the puzzle together. While Lacy only referred to a character named Jean and never mentioned an actor by name, many viewers connected his comments to Sadie Sink, whose role in the film has been extremely secretive throughout the movie’s promotion.
Fans began sounding the alarm across social media as the clip quickly began making rounds online. People joked that Marvel’s famously reserved executives were probably already “on the phone” and out to get Lacy. One fan even wrote, “He pulled a Tom Holland on Tom Holland’s movie,” referencing the film star’s infamous history of spoiling major Marvel movie plot points.
Lacy attended the premiere because his song “Oh Yeah?” appears on the film’s soundtrack (it’s also the title track to his third studio album, released earlier this month). Lacy’s Spider-Man crossover comes four years after his breakout hit “Bad Habit” topped the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks. Its parent album, Gemini Rights, also reached the top 10 on the Billboard 200 back in 2022.
As for whether Lacy actually spoiled Spider-Man: Brand New Day or simply sent fans into an unnecessary spiral, Marvel devotees will have to find out for themselves this Friday (July 31). Until then, the internet has already reached one verdict: maybe don’t ask Steve Lacy spoiler-related questions on a red carpet.

Following its debut on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart through “De la A a la Z ,” with Los Ángeles Azules, in June, Argentine cumbia group Ke Personajes earns its first No. 1, as the song jumps 3-1 on the ranking dated Aug. 1.
“We received the news with immense joy,” Emanuel Noir, lead singer for Ke Personajes, shares with Billboard. “From day one, we dreamed of taking our cumbia to every corner of the world, and this achievement confirms that this path is bearing fruit. It is the reward for effort, dedication and work done with heart. Without a doubt, this is a moment that fills us with pride and happiness.”
A mix of Argentine and regional Mexican cumbia, “De la A a la Z” lands at the summit on Regional Mexican Airplay after a 23% gain in audience impressions, to 6.9 million, earned in the United States on the tracking week ending July 23, according to Luminate. The song, released May 13 on Virgin Music Latin, marked Ke Personajes’ first visit to the tally upon its debut in June.
“We are happy that this collaboration with Ke Personajes, one of the duets we have enjoyed the most, has reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican chart, also marking our eighth No. 1 on this chart,” Los Ángeles Azules tells Billboard. “Congratulations to our brothers in Ke Personajes, and what an honor to share this great achievement with them.”
Los Ángeles Azules expands their legacy, as the song becomes their 29th career chart entry and their eighth No. 1. It follows February’s “Si Sabes Contar,” which also paired the group with Argentine acts Luck Ra and Yami Safdie.
“The fact that such an iconic band, a worldwide reference in cumbia, thought of Ke Personajes to share a song was something that surprised us and thrilled us greatly,” Ke Personajes adds. “At that time, we were working to make our music cross borders, and this opportunity came as confirmation that we were on the right path. For us, it was something incredible—unthinkable, almost unreal.”
Beyond its Regional Mexican Airplay coronation, “De la A a la Z” is gaining momentum across Billboard’s Latin rankings: just shy of No. 1, it vaults 7-2 on the overall Latin Airplay chart, marking Los Ángeles Azules’ strongest showing since 2024’s “Perdonarte, ¿Para Qué?” with Emilia. The track also climbs 25-16 on Hot Regional Mexican Songs and charges 44-22 on Hot Latin Songs, which combines streaming, radio airplay and sales. For Ke Personajes, it marks a first appearance on all three charts.
Ke Personajes added that working with Los Ángeles Azules “was a true privilege. We shared ideas, learned from their experience, and found a very natural musical connection. The result was a very special song that represents the best of both projects and opened doors for more people around the world to discover the music of Ke Personajes.”
