Turnstile made their Saturday Night Live debut on Saturday (Oct. 4), performing three songs from their Grammy-winning album Never Enough on the Dakota Johnson-hosted episode.
The Baltimore hardcore band — appearing the night after a set at Austin City Limits — opened with “Birds,” which won best metal performance at the 68th annual Grammy Awards in February. Later in the show, the five-piece returned for a medley of “I Care” and “Dull.”
The appearance marked a milestone for the band, and for the genre: Turnstile are the first hardcore act to perform on SNL since Fear’s famously chaotic 1981 appearance. Host Dakota Johnson had teased the booking in a promo earlier in the week, joking that she was ready to start a “wall of death” for the band.
Never Enough, released in June 2025, is Turnstile’s fourth album and the follow-up to their 2021 breakthrough Glow On. It debuted in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 and topped the Top Hard Rock Albums chart, while its title track became the band’s first No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart. The record earned the group five Grammy nominations — making Turnstile the first band ever nominated across the rock, alternative and metal fields in a single ceremony — and converted two of them, winning best rock album alongside “Birds.”
In August, Turnstile followed up with Never Enough: Versions, a reimagined edition of the album featuring contributions from Elton John, Hayley Williams, Slayyyter, Julien Baker, Four Tet, Blood Orange, Faye Webster and Alex G, among others.

Taylor Swift made a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live this weekend, crashing host Dakota Johnson’s opening monologue.
Johnson, hosting for the third time on the eve of her birthday (Oct. 4), spent much of the monologue joking about her history of dating musicians, saying she has supportive friends who “don’t judge me for dating these men.”
She then introduced “my literal therapist” — cuing Swift, who walked on to correct her. “I’m not your therapist, actually,” Swift said.
“You just show up once a week at my house with an empty bottle of wine and ask if I want some.” She continued: “You flop on my couch and overshare, and every so often I just say, ‘Damn, that’s crazy.’” The bit ended with Swift noting she sends Johnson home with “a Pedialyte” and a security escort.
The monologue also worked in a nod to Swift’s husband, Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, as Johnson referenced “England and parts of Ireland and Cleveland” among the places tied to her romantic misadventures — a wink at Kelce’s Cleveland-area roots — prompting a “Woo-woo!” from Swift.
The cameo reunited the pair weeks after they appeared together in the video for “Patient Zero,” the single from Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore that she directed and co-starred in. The clip, which premiered at the MTV Video Music Awards, stars Johnson and Colin Farrell as a wealthy couple whose marriage is unraveling, with Swift appearing as a spectral figure. Earlier Saturday, Swift released an expanded eight-minute version of the “Patient Zero” video exclusively on Apple Music.
It marked Swift’s first SNL appearance since October 2023, when she introduced musical guest Ice Spice; she has a long history with the show, having hosted in 2009 and appeared as musical guest multiple times.

Johnson, who previously hosted SNL in 2015 and again in 2020, appears in a playful new promo with the five-piece Baltimore hardcore band and comedian Ben Marshall. In it, she leaves no doubt that she’s ready to go hard with the two-time Grammy Award-winners.
In one take, Johnson, staring down the barrel of the camera, insists she’ll “form a wall of death” to celebrate the performance. Marshall would too, he explains, but his doctor said he’s “not allowed to mosh.” Apparently he tips over too easily, a center-of-gravity problem he shares with Ikea lamps.
Turnstile is the first hardcore band to appear on SNL since Fear’s famously chaotic performance back in 1981. “Yeah, they completely trashed the set,” Johnson remarks. “They threw stuff around and said things you cannot say on TV. It was a mess. You aren’t planning to do that, right, Turnstile.” Cue sheepish looks from the bandmates: Brendan Yates (vocals/synth/keys ), Franz Lyons (bass), Pat McCrory (guitar), Daniel Fang (drums), and Meg Mills (guitar).
In another take, Marshall dishes out some awkward hugs (and lands one particularly well-received cuddle), and gives the rockers a shoutout for their Grammys success. To which the bandmates speak as one. “Wow, do you guys always speak in unison like that,” notes Johnson. “Because that would be weird.” Actually, yes. Yes they do.
Weird or not, Turnstile are winners. At the 68th Grammy Awards, presented in February of this year, the band converted two of four nominations, winning for best rock album (for Never Enough) and best metal performance (for album track “Birds”).
Johnson’s latest stint on SNL hosting duties comes as she promotes Verity, the film adaptation of the Colleen Hoover novel. She also co-starred in Taylor Swift’s “Patient Zero” music video, alongside fellow actor Colin Farrell, which premiered on the MTV Video Music Awards.
The new episode of SNL airs Saturday, Oct. 3 at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.

There’s nothing ordinary about the past two years in Alex Warren’s career. The California singer, songwriter and content creator landed a hit for the ages with “Ordinary,” a single that last year led the Billboard Hot 100 for 10 weeks.
It was a similar story on the other side of the Atlantic, where the YouTuber and Hype House alum reigned over the Official U.K. Singles Chart for 13 weeks. With that feat, he became the U.S. artist with the most consecutive weeks at No. 1 in the United Kingdom. “Ordinary” was the best-selling single of the year 2025 in Australia.
His two albums have led the Official U.K. Albums Chart, including his most recent collection Wildchild (via Atlantic Records), which dropped in August of this year, and his treasure chest includes five iHeart Radio Awards, a 2025 MTV VMA (for best new artist), Billboard’s Best New Artist of 2025 and a Grammy nomination (also for best new artist).
Warren recently completed his Finding Family on the Road world arena tour, and celebrated by getting back on stage, this time at NBC’s studios in New York City for a performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
For the spot, which aired Wednesday night (Sept. 30), Warren and his band performed the Wildchild ballad “Cry Wolf” on a stage which, through the wonders of technology and some clever design, had the appearance of a spooky late-night walk in the park. The smoke machine worked like it was lifted from the set of a vintage Hammer Film.
“I’m so proud of Wildchild,” he recently said of his new album. “Creatively, this is where I wanted to go. If you relate to even one part of it, I’m happy. It touches on so many different elements, but there’s a message. I’m happy with who I am now, and I’m ready to take over what my dad didn’t get to finish as a husband and, someday, a father.”
