Alex Warren’s ‘Wildchild’ Screams to No. 1 on ARIA Chart

Alex Warren‘s Wildchild is a menace on the Australian albums chart, where it opens its account at No. 1.

The week’s best-seller on vinyl, Wildchild is the followup to Warren’s debut collection You’ll Be Alright, Kid, which peaked at No. 2 last year and lifts 11-5 on the latest ARIA Chart, published late Friday, Sept. 4.

You’ll Be Alright, Kid housed Warren’s hit “Ordinary,” which led the ARIA Top 100 Singles Chart for the year 2025. “Ordinary” currently sits at No. 4 on the national singles survey. The Californian singer and songwriter is currently in these parts for the Australasian leg of his Finding Family on the Road World Tour 2026, presented by Frontier Touring.

Venerated Australian songsmith Paul Kelly returns to the ARIA Chart with Seventy, which bounces to No. 2 off the back of a deluxe edition. The album opened and peaked at No. 2 last November, becoming Kelly’s 14^th top 10 album. The winner of 16 career ARIA Awards, Kelly was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 1997; received the prestigious Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services to Australian Music at the 2011 APRA Music Awards; and was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the 2017 Australia Day Honours. Kelly was a keynote speaker Tuesday (Sept. 1) at the 2026 BIGSOUND conference in Brisbane.

Veteran U.S. heavyweights Mastodon roar onto the ARIA Chart with Marrow Deep, their ninth studio album. It’s new at No. 6, for the rockers’ third top 10 appearance after Once More ‘Round The Sun (No. 3 in 2014) and Emperor Of Sand (No. 7 in 2017).

Close behind is Victorian metalcore band Ocean Sleeper with Peace When I’m Dead, their second studio album. It’s new at No. 7 for their first ARIA Chart appearance.

Homegrown country sweethearts Brooke McClymont and Adam Eckersley make a show at No. 12 with Souls On Show, their third album together. The happy couple reached No. 16 with Adam & Brooke (2018) and No. 26 with Up, Down & Sideways (from 2023). As a member of the McClymonts, Brooke won two ARIA Awards and bagged six top 40 albums, according to ARIA.

Meanwhile, Brisbane-born artist Jem Cassar-Daley cracks the top 20 with her debut studio album, Tattoos Used To Come Off In The Pool. It’s new at No. 18. Cassar-Daley, the daughter of Aussie country great Troy Cassar-Daley and local TV personality Laurel Edwards, performed several showcases this week during the BIGSOUND nighttime program.

Over on the ARIA Singles Chart, Ella Langley lassos her 12th non-consecutive week at No. 1 with “Choosin’ Texas.”

Finally, the late Queen of Country, Dolly Parton, completes a rare podium sweep on ARIA’s On Replay Singles Chart, which ranks tracks that were released two or more years ago. Parton is at No. 1 with “9 to 5,” at No. 2 with “Jolene,” and her Kenny Rogers duet “Islands In The Stream,” written by ARIA Hall of Fame inductees Bee Gees, is at No. 3.

Australia’s prime minister Anthony Albanese was one of the many fans who paid tribute to Dolly, who died Aug. 25 at the age of 80.
